The new face of Aprilia SR 160 gives it a sharper and more sporty design, while new features keep it up to date. Brand: Aprilia Model: 2022 SR 160 There is an old saying "change is the only constant", which also applies in the automotive field as well. Maintaining product relevance in an evolving market requires regular updates, and Aprilia SR160 is the latest receiver. After years of development, it finally got the much-needed facelift and functional updates. Let's see what's new. 2022 Aprilia SR 160: New design About five years ago, Aprilia launched the SR 160 in India. In recent months, its shape has begun to grow in the teeth. Aprilia solved this problem by redesigning the front apron, and I have to say that they did a commendable job. It looks sharper and more sporty, while retaining the identity of Aprilia SR. Another aspect that catches your eye is the new LED headlight cluster with integrated LED position lights. It condenses with the flow of the apron, and I really like the way it gives the scooter a big smile. Apulia says these headlights are high-lumen, but we will retain our judgment until proper testing is done in the dark. You will also notice the new fairing with artificial air intakes on the handlebars and the carbon fiber finish on the front fenders. The variant you see on these pages is the top-spec SR-Race, which also includes steering knuckle guards as standard. Another unique feature of this variant is the red wheels and the pleasing paint and graphic scheme, which is inspired by the colors on the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP machine. Other visual updates for Aprilia SR 160 include thicker armrests and X-shaped LED tail lights. In general, these small but important design updates have successfully improved the appearance of the already beautiful Italian scooters. In terms of ergonomics, the seat has been redesigned with a split design. During the time I sat in the saddle, I felt more supportive than the previous SR bass. 2022 Aprilia SR 160: Features In addition to the new LED headlights and taillights, the SR160 is also equipped with an Aprilia SXR 160 that is exactly the same as the all-digital dashboard seen in the SR, except for an orange backlight instead of white. The information displayed is comprehensive, including battery voltage, average speed and fuel consumption data. Although all of these are commendable, we would like to see Bluetooth connectivity provided as a standard. Currently, Aprilia will charge you Rs 2,500 for the Bluetooth module, which is unfair considering the retail price of this scooter. In addition, Aprilia India missed the opportunity to introduce a multi-function key slot on its flagship sports scooter. Nevertheless, this is not a deal breaker, because the remaining attributes of Aprilia SR 160 continue the previous BS6 model. 2022 Aprilia SR 160: The region remains unchanged Aprilia did not make any changes to the scooter's mechanics. The 160.03cc, three-valve, air-cooled single cylinder produces 10.9 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 11 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The "SR-Race" version you see here has a slightly different tuning of the CVT transmission compared to other SR 160 variants to promote better bottom-end performance. Although, without proper Vbox testing, it is difficult to distinguish the difference. On the road, the engine feels smooth and stress-free, up to 80-85 km/h. The responsiveness in the city is very good, because the scooter feels as lively as ever. For reference, the BS6 SR 160 we tested completed a 0-60kph operation in 7.96 seconds. We also managed to see the indicated maximum speed of 90 km/h before driving off the road. Around these speeds, performance began to decline. The relevant point to be explained here is that although the SR 160 was a fairly fast scooter when it was launched in India in 2016, the current 125cc scooters (such as TVS Ntorq) have significantly reduced the performance gap, and then the new Yamaha Aerox leads. Ideally, Aprilia should try to squeeze more power and torque in the next update. In terms of fuel efficiency, since there are no mechanical changes, the overall fuel consumption of the 2022 model should be similar to the 36.1kpl we obtained in the previous scooter test. All in all, I am very happy to see that Aprilia has not modified the chassis. Frame suspensions, brakes, etc. are all propelled forward, and they are very suitable for the intended application of the scooter. Driving at low speeds is stiff, but it gets better as the speed increases. Only the most serious potholes will produce a huge impact. The trade-off takes the form of communication processing, which has always been a hallmark of SR. It feels flexible and lightweight in the city, and is planted around the corner. The MRF Nylogrip Zappers on our test scooter felt very gripping from the beginning, and we had no complaints at all. However, due to the lack of time for the first ride, we cannot comment on the Ceat and Vee rubber tires worn by some other scooters in the launch event because we did not have the opportunity to ride them. Which tire the customer will get depends entirely on luck. The brakes are as good as ever, one of the best brakes on Indian scooters. 2022 Aprilia SR 160: Should you buy one? The new design and additional features undoubtedly keep the SR 160 up-to-date, while maintaining the attributes that make it an interesting scooter. But all of this was achieved at a price of approximately 12,000 rupees higher than the upcoming version. This brings the SR 160 closer to its larger, more comfortable large scooter-style brother, the SXR 160. Crucially, the SR 160 Race Edition is priced at 127,000 rupees, which is very close to the Yamaha Aerox 155, which sells for 129,000 rupees. Yamaha is more powerful and more versatile, bringing a brand new sports scooter to the market. But this does not automatically mean that it is better than Aprilia SR 160, we will resolve the argument after the comparison test. Currently, the SR160 is a truly excellent and easy-to-ride sports scooter with a lovely Italian design. This is a great combination, isn't it?
